The 2014 Delaware Investments U.S. Open draws have been released and opportunities to gain redemption appear to be the order of the day.

On the men’s side, Frenchman Gregory Gaultier is once again the top seed and Englishman Nick Matthew will be staring him down from the opposite side of the draw.

Last year, both Gaultier and Matthew rolled through their early rounds without dropping a game to reach the final. But on finals night, Gaultier dominated Matthew to run away with the title. Since then, Matthew has gone on to win the World Championship, the Hong Kong Open, the Canary Wharf Classic and a Commonwealth Games gold medal. Matthew has beaten Gaultier once, needing 111 minutes in the World Championship final just over a month after the U.S. Open, but Matthew was dominated by Gaultier again in the British Open final.

Hoping to get in the way of a rematch between Gaultier and Matthew is Egypt’s Ramy Ashour who marks his return to the U.S. Open as the third seed after sitting out the championship in 2013. Ashour is seeded to face Matthew in the semifinals while Gaultier could face another Egyptian, Mohamed Elshorbagy, in the other semi. Gaultier has lost just once to Elshorbagy in their previous eleven PSA events.

Chris Gordon, the 2013 U.S. National Champion, enters the main draw as the Wild Card with a first-round matchup against 2011 U.S. Open Champion Amr Shabana.

On the women’s side, Nicol David is seeded to win her third consecutive U.S. Open with a final rematch against second-seeded Laura Massaro predicted.

In August, just days after becoming the first woman to win two successive Commonwealth Games gold medals, David celebrated her 100th consecutive month as WSA world No. 1. David is also seeded first in two World Series events this month—the Malaysian and Hong Kong Opens.

The 2013 World Championships title is the only major title since the 2013 U.S. Open to have eluded David after a shocking exit in the semifinals against Egyptian phenom Nour El Sherbini—who is seeded eighth in the U.S. Open main draw. The title of 2013 World Champion belongs to English world No. 2 Massaro.

American world No. 15 Amanda Sobhy enters the draw seeded fourteenth and will face a qualifier in the opening round. Should the rising senior at Harvard advance past the first round, she is drawn to face Malaysian seven seed Low Wee Wern who eliminated Sobhy in the same round of the 2013 U.S. Open.

Amanda’s younger sister, Sabrina, is the Wild Card in the main draw and will take on fourth-seeded world No. 4 Joelle King. 2012 U.S. Open runner-up Raneem El Welily is seeded third and awaits a qualifier in the first round.
