The Connecticut Junior Championships will begin this Saturday at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. This tournament kicks off the season’s Junior Championship Tour (JCT) series as the first of five events. 301 boys and girls are competing in U11, U13, U15, U17, and U19 age divisions from September 21-23.
The five JCTs held each season feature the highest level of junior of competition and are designed to draw the best players from across the country. This year’s Connecticut Junior Championships has players from 18 states, some traveling from as far as California and Washington to compete. Draws are restricted to 32 players in each division. Only the top 32 ranked applicants in each division qualify to play.
Every winner from last year’s Connecticut Junior Championships divisions U11-U17 will return to play this year. Also, last year’s GU19 winner, Reeham Sedky, will return to compete in the same division. 16-year-old Sedky of Sammamish, Washington represented the US on the Junior National Team in the World Junior Championships this past summer in Wroclaw, Poland.
