This past weekend, 194 boys and girls traveled to Hanover, New Hampshire, to compete across U11, U13, U15, U17, and U19 age divisions in the Fall Foliage Junior Gold hosted at Dartmouth College’s Berry Sports Center.
Gold tournaments feature the highest level of junior competition below Junior Championships Tour events and are restricted to the top 32 ranked players in each age division.
Long time tournament director Valeria Wiens explains the excitement of seeing returning players each year: “We have been running this tournament for years now, and one of the things I enjoy most is seeing last years’ players and how they grow, not just as player, but as young men and women.”
Top seed Max Reed defeated two seed Sam Epley in three games to win the BU19 division, 11-8, 11-6, 11-4. Both Reed and Epley advanced to the final after tough semifinal matches: Reed beating Timmy Brownell in a long, five-game match, 11-13, 8-11, 11-7, 11-3, 11-5, and Epley moving past Andrew Muran in four games, 12-10, 11-3, 6-11, 11-9.
One seed Jacqueline Barnes came back after dropping her first game to unseeded Alina D’Asti to win the GU19 final in four games, 7-11, 11-3, 11-7, 11-8. D’Asti upset two seed Carey Danforth in a four-game semifinal, 11-5, 5-11, 11-7, 11-4.
After taking second in the BU15 division at the Connecticut Junior Championships, top seed Joe O’Connor beat Andrew Douglas to win this weekend’s BU17 title, 11-6, 11-8, 11-2.
One seed Haley Scott topped off a perfect weekend with a three-game final against Isabelle Ezratty to win the GU17 division, 11-6, 11-6, 11-2.
Top seed William Ezratty beat two seed Tucker Martino in a long, five-game BU15 final, 10-12, 13-11, 13-11, 15-17, 11-3.
Marina Stefanoni defeated Gabriela Martin in four games to win the GU15 division, 9-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-2. Stefanoni advanced to the final after upsetting top seed Casey Kelly in a hard-fought semifinal, 7-11, 13-11, 11-5, 11-6.
Top seed Dana Santry took home the BU13 title after defeating two seed Graham Joyce in three tight games, 11-8, 11-8, 11-6. Santry advanced to the final after a tough five-game semifinal against Tate Suratt 10-12, 12-10, 11-5, 8-11, 11-4.
Two seed Caroline Arena upset one seed Julia Curran in three games, winning the GU13 division, 11-7, 11-9, 11-7.
One seed Tobey Suratt defeated Mukunth Gopalakrishnan in the BU11 final in four close games, 11-8, 8-11, 11-9, 12-10.
Willow Woodward won the GU11 four player round-robin going 3-0 for the weekend.
