Board of Directors

U.S. SQUASH is grateful to the following individuals who generously lend their leadership and support to U.S. SQUASH as members of the Board of Directors:

Peter R. Lasusa, Jr., Board Chair

Education: BA and MBA Columbia University, JD George Washington University
Clubs: University Club and Union Club of New York and grew up playing at the Englewood Field Club in N. J.
Profession: President, Management Leadership Resources, Inc, providing business development advisory services to entrepreneurs, early stage venture capital, and middle market private equity buyouts.
Family: Peter learned squash from his father who played enthusiastically to age 82. His son Tim plays competitively in the U17 division and his daughter Elizabeth is also an enthusiastic player. His wife Marcia is happy to get out on the court when she gets the chance.
Squash Angle: Peter is an avid singles and doubles player. He had top 20 national hardball singles rankings in his age groups in the early 90s. He currently Chairs Alumni and Friends of Columbia Squash which recently announced promotion of its men’s and women’s club teams to varsity status in 2011. He was previously the Squash Chair at the University Club and Englewood Field Club.
U.S. SQUASH History: Peter was Tournament Chair of the National Doubles in 2001 and co-Chair of the National Mixed Doubles in 2006. Peter was Secretary of the Association from 2005 through 2007. He served on the Nominating and Governance Committee from 2007 through June 2009 and chaired the recent Governance Review Task Force during 2007 and the 2008 Hall of Fame Dinner. He has served on the Board since 2004 and became Board Chair on July 1, 2009.

Stephen C. Bieneman
Education: AB Brown University, MBA The University of Michigan
Clubs: The Olympic Club, The San Francisco Bay Club
Profession: Founder, CEO of Compass Capital, an international asset finance and management company
Family: Steve is married to Diane and has three adult sons
Squash Angle: Steve started playing hardball at The Lawson YMCA in Chicago after college. He later moved to San Francisco and left the sport for 20 years, returning to the game when his middle son started playing under Tony Brettkelly. He is now committed to growing all squash, but in particular West Coast squash and has served on the Board since 2004. Steve has represented the U.S. on several Lapham Grant teams including as a host in 2004 in San Francisco.

Richard Chin

Diana Dowling
Education: AB Harvard College, MBA Harvard Business School
Clubs: The Field Club of Greenwich, The Round Hill Club
Family: Diana met her husband Joe playing squash at Harvard her freshman year. She has four children, ranging from 15 down to 7, several of which play squash. Diana is still an active singles and doubles player, and her husband is an active doubles player.
Profession: Diana’s professional career has spanned international banking, internet start-ups and equity research in alternative energy. She is currently home full-time with her kids and her squash rackets.
Squash Angle: Diana grew up playing squash in Canada. She was the National Jr. Champion for her age group for five years and played for Canada on two national teams. Upon moving to the US, Diana became one of the most successful female collegiate players in the history of Harvard University and Women’s intercollegiate squash. The fifth woman in Ivy League history to earn All-Ivy all four years of her career, Diana was also a four-time All-American (1984-1988). In 1988, she became the Intercollegiate Individual Squash Champion and helped lead the Crimson to the National Championship. She continues to play post-college, and has competed in a National Championship, and has represented the U. S. in a Lapham-Grant-Crawford-Wilkens Cup Match.

John A. Fry
Board Nominee - Fry
Education: Lafayette College, New York University Stern School of Business
Clubs: Merion Cricket Club near Philadelphia and The Creek on Long Island
Profession: John will become the 14th president of Drexel University starting August 1st, 2010. John has chaired the NCAA Division III Presidents Council and also served for three years on the Executive Committee of the NCAA. His civic activities include membership on the boards of the Haverford School, Lancaster General Health, Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Lancaster Country Day School, where he serves as the President of the Board of Trustees. He is also a Director of Community Health Systems, Delaware Investments, and Ecore International.
Family: John is married and he and his wife, Cara, have three children: Mia, Nathaniel and Phoebe, all of whom are squash players.
Squash Angle: John has been an avid squash player since working at Penn and plays singles and doubles regularly. John’s children have been avid junior squash participants. Mia plays at Williams, and Nathaniel and Phoebe are emerging junior players. John was the founder of the Lancaster Country Day School squash program, which has over forty upper and middle school student players. In 2008, John recruited John White to be the head squash coach of the men’s and women’s teams at Franklin & Marshall. John was instrumental in helping Franklin & Marshall initiate the founding of Squash ACES, an urban squash outreach program that promotes academic achievement for deserving public school students.

Allison “Icy” Frantz

Profession: Writer and Homemaker
Family: Icy and her husband Scott have four children
Squash Angle: Icy played varsity squash in high school (St. Paul’s School) and college (Trinity College) and has continued to be an active player and organizer ever since. Along with being an active junior squash parent, she is personally an active women’s doubles player at local and national levels. She has represented the United States twice at the Lapham-Grant. She is also currently on the Board of City Squash, a leading urban squash program. 
U.S. SQUASH History: Board member.  As Co-Chair of the Round Hill Club Squash Committee, she has been an active organizer of U.S. SQUASH's North American Open since 2003 including Co-Chairing the 2010 tournament.

Stephen P. Harrington
Education: Steve is a 1976 graduate of Phillips Andover Academy and received his BS from Yale in 1980 where he played four years of varsity hockey and baseball.
Clubs: Philadelphia Cricket Club, Germantown Cricket Club
Profession: Steve is currently the President of SPH Investments, Inc., an investment banking and consulting firm and was formerly the CEO and President of Continental Southern Resources.
Family: Steve’s three children are all active junior squash players. Shannon at Stanford, Stephen at Princeton and Tara in junior squash.
Squash Angle: Steve has witnessed well over 1000 junior, high school and now college matches in the last ten years. He is happy to be the fourth in a doubles match with his three dedicated squash playing children whenever they may ask him.

James D. Marver

Profession: Managing Partner of VantagePoint Venture Partners, a venture capital firm with $4 billion under management.
Family: Jim has three children ages 16, 18, and 20
Squash Angle: “I first heard of squash my freshman year at Williams College when Coach Chaffee strongly suggested that his tennis players learn to play squash. He then proceeded to teach us. I played on the freshman and varsity teams each of my years at Williams and on The University of Bristol (England) team during my junior year. I fell in love with squash day one, and I have played continuously ever since.”
U.S. SQUASH History: Chair Investment Committee. Jim has served on the Board since 2005.

Meredeth Quick

Profession: 5th grade public school teacher and part time squash professional at the Heights Casino
Squash Angle: Meredeth has been a star since her junior days and competed on multiple National teams. She played squash on the Princeton National Championship team in 1998 and 1999 and continued playing on the WISPA tour after college, with a career best of #37 in the world. She is currently playing on the WDSA doubles tour and playing singles for fun.
U.S. SQUASH History: Athlete Representative Alternate (female), Women's Committee, Doubles Committee, Junior Women's National Team Assistant Coach 2007, 2009.

Blair Sadler

Profession
: Past President & CEO of Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego (served as president from 1980 to 2006); Senior Fellow, Institute for Health Care Improvement; Faculty, UCSD Schools of medicine and management. Prolific writer, speaker on health care leadership and consultant to hospitals internationally; Board member, Center for Health Design, The Hastings Center on Bioethics, Health and Policy, Surf City Squash -- an Urban Squash program in San Diego.
Squash Angle: Blair began playing squash at Amherst College with his twin brother Alfred and was nationally ranked in several age categories over the years. He and Alfred were two of the original members of the US Squash Founders Club. Blair lives with his wife Georgia in La Jolla, California. They have two grown daughters, Noelle and Nicole.
U.S. SQUASH History: Blair serves as Chair of the Finance, Audit and Compensation Committee. He has served on the Board since 2005.
