Hardball Singles tournaments have been played at the national level since 1907 and continue to this day.
There is an active series of 10 hardball tournaments, with age group events in Santa Fe and Santa Barbara as well as New York, Philadelphia, Boston and Washington.
The feature event of the hardball singles squash season is the U.S. Squash Hardball Singles National Championships. In 2012, the Hardball National Championships included prize money for the Open Division to encourage teaching, PSA and other professionals to enter (or re-enter) the thrill of hardball singles competition, with a $2000 first place prize, with $1250 for the finalist, $750 for the semifinalists and $500 for quarterfinalists.
The Hardball Nationals had Men’s draws for 20+, 30+, 40+, 50+, 55+, 60+, 65+, 70+, 75+, 80+, 85+, as well as the Open and a Women’s Open and 40+ draw. To test out interest in hardball play on the 21 foot wide, “international” sized courts, the consolation matches for ALL divisions will be played on the wide courts, with the “Astral” green ball, which many hardball enthusiasts have found plays GREAT on the international courts. It is slightly slower and bouncier than the traditional “fuscia” hardball which plays too fast for the wider soft-ball courts for most players.
