The Senator Arlen Specter Pennsylvania Junior Championships, the second Junior Championship Tour (JCT) event of the season, gears up to begin this Saturday, October 12. Three-hundred and six boys and girls will compete across all age divisions—U11, U13, U15, U17, and U19—at Drexel University’s Daskalakis Athletic Center and University of Pennsylvania’s Ringe Squash Center.
JCTs feature the highest level of junior competition and play an important role in national team selection. Draws are restricted to 32 players in each age division and only the top 32 applicants in each division qualify to play. Three-hundred and six of the best junior players from across the country will square off in Pennsylvania this weekend.
“This JCT features an especially high level of competition,” says tournament director Harry Smith. The GU19 draw includes sixteen-year-olds Sabrina Sobhy and Reeham Sedky, along with Olivia Fiechter and Kayley Leonard. All four girls represented the U.S. in the World Junior Championships in Wroclaw, Poland, in mid-July.
