Just before the Sunday evening matches on the glass show court, forty-six of the nearly three hundred 2016-2017 US Squash Scholar Athlete Award recipients were recognized before hundreds of squash fans at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. Many of the scholar athletes on hand were in Philadelphia putting their best effort in on the squash courts at Drexel University and University of Pennsylvania in the Arlen Specter Pennsylvania Junior Championships.

US Squash recognized the scholar athletes who participated in the junior squash season during the 2016-2017 academic year. The Scholar Athlete Award is given to high school student athletes who achieved a grade point average of 3.5 in school and participated in at least four US Squash accredited events. Scholar-athletes came from public, private and boarding schools. In addition, seventeen student athletes were recognized as Scholar Athletes in all four years of high school.

The application for the 2017-2018 Scholar Athlete Award will be available in spring 2018.
