Amanda Sobhy advanced to the second round of the CIMB Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur today as the last American in the tournament.

Sobhy, seeded tenth in the Open, breezed past Mexico’s Samantha Teran, 11-7, 11-1, 11-6, in only twenty-eight minutes. This marks Sobhy’s second win against Teran since 2011.

Fellow American Latasha Khan fell for the fifth time in her career against England’s Laura Massaro in three games, 6-11, 2-11, 4-11, ending her Malaysian Open run.

Sobhy is scheduled to play Malaysia’s own Delia Arnold, who, yesterday, battled for over an hour in a five-game marathon against England’s Alison Waters. Arnold triumphed in the last game, pulling ahead for an 11-9 win. Sobhy and Arnold have played only once before in the Tournament of Champions in 2013. Sobhy defeated Arnold in three games 11-9, 11-5, 11-8, in a little less than half an hour. Arnold and Sobhy are scheduled to play tomorrow, August 20, at 5pm local time.
