Team USA’s Amanda Sobhy rose twelve places to world No. 18, while 2017 S.L. Green U.S. champion Chris Hanson achieved a career high Thursday in March’s PSA Tour world rankings.

The twenty-four-year-old made her comeback from a ten-month injury hiatus following a ruptured Achilles in January, and has competed in three tournaments since her return, improving with each tournament.

The Harvard graduate’s comeback began at the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions in January where she reached the second round. At the Cleveland Classic at the beginning of February, Sobhy achieved her first top ten upset since her return against world No. 8 Sarah-Jane Perry on her run to the semifinals.

Sobhy’s most significant result of 2018 thus far came this past week at the 2018 Windy City Open presented by the Walter Family and Equitrust. After a first-round win against world No. 16 Victoria Lust, Sobhy upset world No. 6 and five seed Nouran Gohar in four games to reach the quarterfinals. In the quarters, Sobhy’s run came to an end against eventual finalist Joelle King.

Sobhy’s injury occurred nearly a year ago in Colombia against U.S. teammate Olivia Blatchford. Blatchford, 2017 U.S. champion, maintains her top twenty status as world No. 13 after reaching the second round of the ToC and Windy City Open.

Harvard graduate Haley Mendez moves up four places in March to a career high ranking of world No. 46.

On the men’s side, U.S. champion Chris Hanson achieves a career high ranking of world No. 63. Boosted by his Windy City Open wide card appearance, the Dartmouth graduate rose thirteen places in March. Chris Gordon maintains his ranking at No. 61 two places ahead of Hanson.

Todd Harrity remains the top-ranked U.S. male on the PSA Tour, dropping two places to world No. 52.

Team USA’s top athletes will compete for the coveted S.L. Green U.S. Men’s and Women’s Championship titles, March 7-10, in Philadelphia.
