Team USA’s Amanda Sobhy, Sabrina Sobhy and Haley Mendez are all set to make their return to the PSA World Tour in the first round of the Manchester Open Wednesday and Thursday, September 16-17.
The PSA World Tour makes its return with the PSA Silver event as the six-month suspension of professional squash due to the global COVID-19 pandemic comes to an end. The tournament, originally scheduled for May 2020, will be held behind closed doors and will follow strict COVID-19 protocols to ensure the health and safety of all players and on-site staff in coordination with the Manchester City Council. The event will broadcast live on SquashTV and PSA World Tour Facebook live.
Sabrina Sobhy will be the first American in action on Wednesday at 4pm local time, 11am ET, against the tournament’s top seed, France’s world No. 3 Camille Serme. Serme, who won the 2020 J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions in January, has won all three of her previous encounters with the young American.
Both Mendez and Amanda Sobhy join in the action on Thursday, and could set up an all-American second round match against won another should they progress.
Mendez faces Belgium’s Tinne Gilis at 11am local time, 6am ET. Gilis holds a 3-0 head-to-head record against the American.
Amanda Sobhy, the highest ranked American at world No. 7, will hope for her second career victory over Brooklyn-based Finn Emilia Soini at 1:30pm local time, 8:30am ET.
