Arlen Specter US Squash Center Seeks Program Director

US Squash is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization which serves as the only national governing body and membership organization for the sport in the United States.  It is seeking a person motivated by the organization’s mission to serve in the role of Program Director for the Arlen Specter US Squash Center.

DETAILS OF PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

In collaboration with the General Manager, the Program Director is responsible for planning, organizing and executing all activities and recreational services associated with the Arlen Specter US Squash Center for its member-partners, private groups and other users.

Develop programs that will attract participants, increase participation, and generate revenue to ensure goals and objectives for each are reached.

Develop goals, timeline, communications and budget for each program/activity.

Establish benchmarks in order to measure and track retention.

Program Director will assemble and manage a staff that is commensurate with program needs – ensuring quality and efficiency.

Manage instructional staff and all aspects of Specter Center Junior Programs, which includes sound communication with schools, partners and parents regarding lesson, clinic offerings and camps.  Support the SquashSmarts initiatives, as requested.

Liaise with National Team program leaders, as directed.  Through synergies and cooperation, identify opportunities to pool resources and expertise among National Team leadership to further Specter Center community and partnership programs; and, ensure smooth operations exists among respective programs.

Develop of programs to attract Community play.  Liaise with community partners.

Coordinate Center-competitions, ladders and inter- and intra-league play.

Contribute to events and operations as directed by the General Manager.

Practice proficiency with Specter Center operating systems.

JOB OVERVIEW:  

Responsible for developing of a suite of squash programs, events and activities that foster the growth in Community Squash and Member-Partner participation at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center.  Maximizes court utilization and revenue generation while meeting the needs of various constituent groups.  Programs for member-partners and community players may include, but not limit to, introductory clinics, instructional programs, round robins, leagues, ladders, camps and academies, and junior programs. Collaborate with National Team program leaders to ensure coordination of all programs is sound.  Promote squash among the community and act as an ambassador to enhance the value of Specter Center and US Squash partnerships.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Design programs that attract players, maximize court utilization and drives revenue and/or participation.
  2. In collaboration with a Head Squash Professional, develop a team of squash professionals that provides high quality instruction. Squash professionals must exercise exceptional sportsmanship and strive to engage and proactively meet the needs of member-partners and Specter Center guests.
  3. Develop and promote an instructional squash program that includes private lessons, clinics and competitive playing strategies for players at all levels.
  4. Coordinate and manage a comprehensive junior program – from an introductory level through high performance, to include individual lessons, clinics, competitive play, and camps.
  5. Work with the General Manager and Membership & Marketing Manager to formulate promotional material around Specter Center programs that will generate new partnerships (memberships) and community awareness.
  6. Manage leagues and ladders for member-partners, inter-club competition and corporate groups.
  7. Develop programs that enhance a sense of community within the Specter Center member-partner contingent, which may include social squash evenings, member-partner/guest tournaments, Men’s/Ladies’ Night, Squash Mixer, and exhibitions.
  8. Develop educational programs in squash, fitness and other related topics in collaboration with industry experts to enhance the value of Specter Center partnerships.
  9. With all programs, plan, organize and promote events in a timely manner, providing appropriate lead times and administration, as well as develop profit/expense scenarios.
  10. Facilitate new member-partners and guest orientations – providing direction that will help integrate players into programs and identify opportunities to play with others.
  11. Establish benchmarks and metrics to gauge the success of a program as well as the opportunity to make modification and/or value decisions.
  12. Supervise all service delivery employees associated with the squash program and work in conjunction with Specter Center and US Squash leaderships to ensure proper operations and facility management.
  13. Exercise proficiency in property management software for check-in system, reservations, membership database, and billing.
  14. Assist in the development of ‘squash packages’ and programs to attract players and groups from around the country.
  15. Solicit, receive, and respond to member-partner feedback.
  16. Work closely with Controller on budgeting, billing, and payroll and commission reports, ensuring proper and efficient expense control.
  17. Coordinate staff, activities and court availability among stakeholders, including SquashSmarts, Programs and Events and National Teams, as appropriate.
  18. Remain on the leading edge of progress and teaching methods, equipment and programs in order to set standards that can be adopted by squash clubs/centers throughout the country.
  19. Solve problems quickly and efficiently in the interests of both the Specter Center and its guests.
  20. Enforce Specter Center policies.
  21. Attend all staff meetings, other meetings and trainings requested by the General Manager.
  22. Motivate staff to exhibit professionalism and cooperation and promote safety and all times.
  23. Contribute to broader Specter Center and US Squash efforts by completing additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. US Squash coaching certification (strong understanding of certification criteria); dependent on coaching and competitive playing experience.
  2. Minimum of three years development or managing squash programs in a sports club, college intermural recreation center, or community center.
  3. Minimum of two years’ experience coaching and/or providing instruction either in a club or through coaching a team at the high school or collegiate level.
  4. Management, operations or administrative experience in a sports complex, private club, collegiate, or hospitality environment preferred.
  5. First Aid, AED and CPR certified and ability to maintain credentials.
  6. Bachelor’s degree or relevant applicable experience

US Squash is building the world’s finest squash center to be a home for the sport in the U.S. Opening in Philadelphia this fall on the campus of Drexel University, the Specter Center will feature eighteen singles courts—including two all-glass exhibition courts—and two doubles courts, and offer athletes state-of- the-art development resources including a High Performance Center with the most advanced training and analytics tools available. The facility will house a community-engagement-focused Learning & Innovation Center, the U.S. Squash Hall of Fame, and serve as US Squash’s national headquarters.
