Team USA’s Olivia Fiechter recorded the highest-ranked upset of her career over world No. 10 Tesni Evans in the second round of the J. Warren Young Memorial Texas Open in Dallas.

Fiechter, world No. 52, opened up her tournament with a three-game victory over Malaysia’s Weenee Low on Tuesday to set up an encounter against Evans, the tournament’s three seed.

The Princeton graduate edged two close opening games, 12-10, 12-10, but Evans came back to win the third 11-8. Fiechter then sealed the match 11-6 in the fourth to move on to the quarterfinals after fifty-four minutes.

“It hasn’t really sunk in yet,” Fiechter said. “I’m beyond excited! I knew it would be a tough match against Tesni, who is a top 10 player, but I knew I just had to go out there push her for the win which I managed to do.”

Fiechter will face Canada’s Hollie Naughton in the quarterfinals Friday evening at 7:30pm local time.

U.S. teammate and two seed Amanda Sobhy opened her tournament with a decisive three game victory over Czech international Anna Serme 11-3, 11-5, 11-2. Sobhy will take on Egypt’s five seed Nadine Shahin Friday night at 8:15pm local time.
