Defending S.L. Green U.S. Men’s Champion Todd Harrity enters the 2016 draw seeded to win a second consecutive national title this weekend at Boar’s Head Resort in Charlottesville, Virginia. For the third year in a row, the National Singles will be held alongside the S.L. Green on the McArthur Squash Center’s nine international singles courts.
For the second consecutive year, the S.L. Green will offer $20, 000 in prize money thanks to a generous donation by the men’s tournament’s namesake, Stephen Green.
The twenty-five-year-old from Wayne, Pennsylvania, is seeded for a final rematch against two seed and 2013 national champion and world No. 57 Chris Gordon.
Harrity was ranked sixty-nine in the world when won the 2015 title, and has since broken into the world’s top fifty this month for the first time in his career.
One one absence in the draw is world No. 73, Chris Hanson, who withdrew following an injury during his semifinal run at the Manitoba Open last weekend.
As a result of Hanson’s withdrawal, nine-time champion Julian Illingworth moves up to the three seed. The Portland, Oregon-native is just one title away from setting a U.S. record for most open division national titles.
One round of qualifying will complete the sixteen-player main draw Wednesday nigh with matches starting at t. The first round of the main draw begins Thursday morning at 11am ET.
