For the second consecutive year, Harvard and University of Pennsylvania will contest the College Women’s Team Championship Howe Cup final, after both programs recorded semifinal victories Saturday afternoon at Princeton’s Jadwin Gymnasium in New Jersey.
The top two seeds had contrasting semifinals as Harvard put in a confident performance to defeat hosts Princeton 8-1 on the Tigers’ home courts, while Penn recovered from 4-3 down against Trinity to clinch the final two matches on court and win 5-4.
For the second time this season, Harvard defeated Princeton 8-1 at the Jadwin. The Crimson enter their ninth consecutive Howe Cup final undefeated on the season and with a third consecutive Howe Cup in their sights.
Three seeds Trinity appeared on the brink of an upset with a 4-3 lead over Penn, but crucial wins by Reeham Sedky and Rowaida Attia Walid at No. 1 and No. 7 sealed Penn’s second consecutive Howe Cup final appearance.
Having lost against Harvard in last year’s final 5-4 and during the regular season 7-2, Penn will hope to upset the top seeds to win what would be the Quakers’ first Howe Cup since 2000.
