National Capital Squash (NCS) is leading the US Squash Olympic Fund Club Supporters with their matching pledge donation of up to $10, 000. NCS has pledged to match any other district association donation with a 50% match!
NCS, among the leading squash districts in the country, views the bid as a major opportunity worthy of direct support. NCS Board President David Keating commented, “At first I was pretty pessimistic with the situation with wrestling. And I’m still realistic. I do think that a strong and hopefully winning Olympic bid does greatly promote squash in our area, as well as worldwide.
“It will lead to huge exposure and publicity for the sport and I think it’s a huge deal with juniors. Every athlete dreams of representing his or her country at the Olympics. Having this a part of the appeal for squash for bringing more kids in the game would lead to more juniors playing and more of them devoting more time to the sport. Both would be huge pluses in our region and for our member clubs.”
The launch of the It’s Now Or Never campaign has inspired many clubs across the United States to raise funds to support squash’s Olympic bid.
Squash’s campaign for inclusion will cost approximately a million dollars in total, and our goal for the United States is to contribute a third of that amount. With another $100, 000 to go, we are asking for help from our hundreds of member clubs around the country. More than two dozen clubs have stepped up and contributed (see full list here and district supporters here).
