Thirty-five-year-old Argentinian Robertino Pezzota stormed to his tenth career PSA title this weekend at the WLJ Capital Boston Open at Life Time Athletic Framingham in Massachusetts.
Pezzota, world No. 76, dropped just one game on his way to the $11,000 PSA Challenger title, upsetting the field as the seven seed. After dispatching Harvard’s Timmy Brownell in the round of sixteen, Pezzota upset three seed Shawn Delierre in the quarterfinals.
Pezzota lost his only game of the tournament against surprise semifinalist Carlos Cornes Ribadas, but progressed to the final 11-8, 11-13, 11-6, 13-11.
In the final, Pezzota once again prevailed in three games against Mexico’s former world No. 35 Alfredo Avila 11-9, 13-11, 11-9.
2018 marked just the second edition of the Boston Open with the tournament expanding from a $5,000 draw in 2017.
