Americans Hope Prockop and Michael Gough both upset the seedings in their respective divisions to claim British Open Masters titles this weekend in Hull, England.
Prockop, the U.S. women’s 40+ and 45+ champion, entered the British Open 45+ draw unseeded and went on to knock out the top seed in her semifinal, before defeating the two seed in Sunday’s final to claim the title in four games.
World Masters 75+ and U.S. 75+ champion Michael Gough added the 2015 British Open 75+ title to his accolades. Gough, seeded second, went on to reach Sunday’s final, in which he defeated the top seed in four games.
Prockop and Gough were joined by fellow Americans Richard Millman and Norbert Kornyei in England this weekend. Millman, a men’s 55+ 5/8 seed, recorded an upset over a 3/4 seed in the second round, but eventually fell to the top seed and finalist in the quarterfinals.
Kornyei was dealt with the difficult draw of 3/4-seeded Gerry Poulton in his opening match. Poulton won the match, but Kornyei pushed the eventual semifinalist to five games.
