Elriani (l) coaching Andrew Douglas at the S.L. Green Men’s Championship, and Sedky competing in the U.S. Women’s Championship final.

University of Pennylvania’s Reeham Sedky and Heights Casino’s Laurent Elriani will be recognized as the 2016 United States Olympic Committee athlete and coach of the year during the U.S. Open presented by Macquarie Investment Management.

Since 1991, the USOC Athlete of the Year has been US Squash’s highest award for achievement in international competition.

Last year Sedky played in her first Women’s World Team Championships and made as fine a debut as any Team USA athlete ever has. She won her first match against Wales, she took Sarah-Jane Perry to five games in a very exciting match against England and then in the last match against Malaysia she clinched a 5th place finish by topping Delia Arnold 11-8 in the fifth.

Sedky will be honored on court Thursday, October 12, following the 6pm match.

Since 1998, the USOC National Coach of the Year has been US Squash’s way of honoring the very best in mentoring in the U.S.

Elriani has been a significant leader in the States since his arrival in 2007, helping make the Heights Casino a real engine for junior squash again. And specifically, his coaching of Andrew Douglas has helped propel him to unprecedented heights for an American male player. Elriani also coached Tiber Worth to a U17 national title this year.

Elriani will be honored on court on Sunday, October 8, following the 4:30pm match.
