Philadelphia locals Dane Sharp and Madeline Perry earned the final two qualifying spots at the 2017 U.S. Open presented by Macquarie Investment Management by winning the pre-qualifying finals Tuesday night, September 12, at Drexel University.

More than thirty Philadelphia area players competed in the men’s and women’s pre-qualifying draws throughout the summer, culminating in Tuesday’s finals.

Perry, former world No. 3 and coach at the Baldwin School, defeated four-time pre-qualifying champion Georgina Stoker 8-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-4.

Perry, an Irish international, reached the 2011 U.S. Open semifinals, and will be making her seventh U.S. Open appearance next month.

Sharp, a Merion Cricket Club professional, dispatched Princeton graduate and fellow Canadian Tyler Osborne 13-11, 11-8, 11-9.

Sharp and Perry enter the first round of qualifying at Drexel and local clubs Thursday, October 5. Qualifying draws will be released Tuesday, October 3.
