Sobhy Defeats Blatchford to Set up El Tayeb British Open Clash

Amanda Sobhy defeated her U.S. teammate and world No. 13 Olivia Blatchford in the first round of the Allam British Open Tuesday, setting up a second round clash Wedensday against world No. 3 Nour El Tayeb in Hull, England.

Playing on the University of Hull’s side courts, Sobhy emerged victorious from a four-game encounter 11-3, 8-11, 11-8, 11-2 after thirty minutes.

The result sends the four-time U.S. champion and former world No. 6 into her second career British Open second round.

Egypt’s world No. 3 Nour El Tayeb awaits the twenty-four-year-old American on the glass court in the second round. Watch the match live on SquashTV Wednesday at 6:30pm local time, 1:30pm EDT.

El Tayeb most recently defeated Sobhy at the 2018 J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions in what was Sobhy’s comeback from injury. Since January, Sobhy has jumped back up the rankings from world No. 28 to world No. 21 this month.
