Top Seeds Sabrina Sobhy and Heba El Torky to Contest Liberty Bell Open Final

Lib Bell Open2014Sabrina Sobhy continued her momentum through Saturday’s quarterfinal and semifinal rounds of the Liberty Bell Open 2014 securing a place in Sunday’s final as she seeks her second career WSA title.

The seventeen-year-old American first topped Mexican eight seed and world No. 96 Diana Garcia in a quick quarterfinal, 11-5, 11-5, 11-7.

Sobhy next faced Canada’s world No. 80 and six seed Hollie Naughton. Naughton advanced to the semifinal after a four-game upset victory over three seed Carrie Ramsey of England. Sobhy stopped the Canadian’s run and picked up her third career win over Naughton in a three-game semifinal victory, 11-5, 11-6, 11-8.

Two seed Sobhy will take on top seed Heba El Torky in today’s final at Berwyn Squash & Fitness Club. El Torky advanced to the final after defeating five seed Nayelly Hernandez of Mexico in a three-game quarterfinal, 11-2, 11-3, 11-5. She then ousted four seed and fellow Egyptian Salma Nassar in four games, 10-12, 13-11, 11-8, 11-7.

Sobhy will hope to replicate her performance against El Torky in August’s National Capital Open quarterfinal in which Sobhy upset El Torky in five games, 12-10, 5-11, 11-1, 8-11, 11-6.

Cecelia Cortes, the other remaining American in yesterday’s action, was dispatched after a three-game quarterfinal loss to Salma Nassar, 11-4, 11-7, 11-2.
