In marketing its reports, the Sports and Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) this week promoted squash in its top line summary of this leading industry research annual report. Right below noting a 7.3% decline in individual sports participation since 2008, the summary highlights that Stand Up Paddling, Squash and Archery are among the twenty-five fastest growing sports! US Squash uses SFIA data annually to measure growth and compare itself versus other similar sports.

The SIFA is the trade association of leading industry sports and fitness brands, suppliers, retailers and partners. Every year, SIFA conducts in-depth research into more than seventy sports and fitness activities, producing individual reports for each, by working with Sports Marketing Surveys USA.

Just two years ago, the same third party research organization had found that between 2007-2011 the United States saw the fastest growing squash participation level of any country worldwide, coupled with a remarkable growth of 82%—within that same period—to an estimated 1.2 million players nationally.

US Squash, for 2015 alone, noted over 5, 500 individual players enrolled in tournaments; more than forty states and countries participating in the year’s events; and about 9, 000 matches played over the course of the season.

Over the course of a five-year period, US Squash has seen a 86% growth in participation for middle school squash players, 18% for high school, and a 43% increase in participation in the U.S. Junior Open—the largest junior tournament in the world.
