Team USA Ensures Top Twelve Finish at Men’s World Team Championship

Team USA has guaranteed a top twelve finish at the 2017 WSF Men’s World Team Championship with a 2-0 victory against thirteen seeds Wales Friday at Modern Squash in Marseille, France.

On the same day that Todd Harrity re-entered the world’s top fifty-ranked players at world No. 48, the Princeton graduate recorded his second upset against a higher-ranked top fifty player. Harrity handed the U.S. a 1-0 lead, outlasting world No. 43 Joel Makin 9-11, 12-10, 9-11, 11-8, 11-9 in sixty-five minutes.

Chris Hanson sealed Team USA’s passage to the 9-12 playoff with a four-game win against Emyr Evans, 9-11, 11-4, 11-3, 11-7 in forty-six minutes.

The dead rubber No. 2 match was not contested following the 2-0 scoreline.

With two match days remaining, nine seeds Malaysia stand in Team USA’s hopes of exceeding their eleventh place seeding. Live stream the match from the glass court at Modern Squash Saturday, December 2, at 11:00am local time, 5:00am ET, on www.wsfmensteams.com.

Elsewhere in the main draw, five seeds Hong Kong shocked tournament hosts France 2-1 to reach the country’s first semifinals. Top seeds Egypt remain unbeaten following a 3-0 victory over India.
