Team USA advanced to the last sixteen of the Men’s World Junior Team Championship after placing second in Pool H Wednesday at the India Squash Center in Chennai.

The U.S. boys earned the eight seed based on results in last week’s World Juniors Individuals, and entered Pool H alongside nine seeds Hong Kong and twenty-one seeds Finland. The top two teams from the pool would advance to the last sixteen, while the third place finisher would get relegated to the 17-24 playoff.

On Tuesday, Team USA secured its spot in the last sixteen courtesy of three, 3-0 victories by Daelum Mawji, Ayush Menon and Tiber Worth against Finland.

The U.S. then sustained a 3-0 defeat against Hong Kong on Wednesday with the same lineup, consigning the U.S. to a second place finish.

The ensuing draw placed Team USA against ten seeds New Zealand in the round of sixteen. In Pool G, New Zealand upset seven seeds Colombia 2-1 and defeated twenty-two seeds Qatar 3-0 to top the group.

Thursday’s match between Team USA and New Zealand will take place on the India Squash Center’s court 2 at 2:30pm local time, 4:30am EDT. Follow results on the World Juniors tournament page and @wsfworldjuniors on Twitter.
